Garven batted .600 and reached base in 11 of 17 plate appearances to lead the Tommies to road sweeps of MIAC playoff teams St. Olaf and Concordia. Garven hit two doubles off St. Olaf ace Charlie Ruud and had a double and three-run homer off Cobber star Jeremy Hinderks. He went 9-for-15 with six RBI, with a homer, three doubles, a walk, a HBP and two steals, and has raised his season batting average to .422. His three-run homer in game-one Saturday helped clinch the MIAC championship for the Tommies for the sixth time in nine seasons. St. Thomas is 33-6 and won the conference by three games with a 17-3 record.

Mike Ramthun, St. Thomas, Senior, Bloomington, Minn/Jefferson HS

Ramthun held St. Olaf to two runs and four hits with no walks over six innings to help the Toms win 9-2 and finish a doubleheader sweep of the Oles en route to winning the MIAC championship. Ramthun improved to 7-0 on the season and 19-6 on his career, and led the conference in ERA at 1.17. Ramthun earlier this season beat Gustavus with five strong innings of relief and shut out Augsburg and Bethel. St. Thomas is 33-6 and won the MIAC for the sixth time in nine seasons with a 17-3 finish.

Gustavus senior second baseman Bryant Rogness compiled a batting average of .688, a slugging percentage of 1.000 and an on-base percentage of .684 as the Gusties posted a 4-0 league record and clinched an MIAC Playoff spot. Rogness recorded 11 hits in 16 at-bats, scored 10 runs and drove in six runs as Gustavus swept Hamline (11-2, 26-2) and Carleton (10-4, 11-2). A co-captain of the squad, Rogness came up big when the Gusties needed him the most. He went six-for-eight at the plate (with three doubles), scored seven runs and drove in three runs in the sweep over Hamline. Against Carleton (10-4, 11-2), Rogness went 5-for-8 (with two doubles), scored three runs and drove in three runs. He was also perfect in the field for the week with four putouts, five assists and no errors. Gustavus, which has now won eight straight MIAC games, finished third in the regular season standings at 13-7 and will be the #3 seed in the post-season tournament on Friday. The Gusties are currently 25-13 overall.

In the second game of the doubleheader, Mahoney entered the game in the seventh inning and recorded a save as Bethel won 8-7.

Riegelman was 6-of-7 from the plate with a 1.571 slugging percentage and .875 on-base percentage. Riegelman ended the season hitting .442 with eight home runs and 30 runs batted in. SJU finished the season 18-18 overall and 11-9 in the MIAC.

Saint John's University senior pitcher Cole Deibele (Sleepy Eye, Minn.) pitched a complete-game 4-2 victory on Saturday, May 8, against Hamline. Deibele pitched seven innings, allowing four hits and one earned run, while striking out two and walking three. Deibele ended the season with a 6-2 overall record and a 3.60 earned run average. SJU finished the season 18-18 overall and 11-9 in the MIAC.

Young batted .550 (11-for-20) to lead the the No. 7-ranked Tommies to a 5-2 record last win, including a 3-1 MIAC record. Young added six RBI, six runs, three HR, three doubles and three walks. His two-out, two-run homer in the sixth inning erased a 1-0 Stout lead, and he finished 3-for-4 with three RBI in the 5-1 win over Stout. In Sunday's win over NAIA No. 12 St. Scholastica, Young's leadoff single in the top of the ninth fueled a two-run rally that netted a 6-4 win. He was 5-for-8 with two home runs in MIAC games vs. Bethel and Carleton, and also went 2-for-4 vs. the Minnesota Gophers. He's hit safely in 12 of his last 13 games and has raised his batting average nearly 100 points to .337. He had one error in 53 defensive chances at first. The Toms are 29-6 and lead the MIAC at 13-3 with big road twinbills this week at St. Olaf and Concordia-Moorhead.

Ramthun shutout Bethel Tuesday after a game-one loss and got a game-ending strikeout Sunday in relief with the bases loaded to beat NAIA No. 12 St. Scholastica. Ramthun improved to 6-0 with the two wins and leads the MIAC in ERA at 0.53. Twice this season Ramthun has thrown shutouts after the Toms lost the first game of conference twinbill. In 8 2/3 innings last week, all on the road, he allowed no runs, four hits, three walks with 11 strikeouts. Ramthun is 17-5 on his career with a 3.00 ERA.

Tobias is currently 4-2 for the season with a 3.29 ERA, including 49 strikeouts on the season. St. Olaf is 11-5 in the MIAC and 17-13 overall.

Carr's seventh homerun of the season in the bottom of the sixth inning, a three-run shot over the right field fence, put Bethel in front 8-6.

In Bethel's 7-1 win over Hamline, Carr went 2 for 3 with one RBI. In the Royals 8-7 win over Hamline in the series finale, Carr went 3 for 4 with one RBI and scored 2 runs. His triple in the top of the sixth inning tied the score at 7 and he later scored the winning run.

Olson had two game-winning hits in the Toms' last at-bat plus had a grand slam while hitting .438 (7-for-16) in helping the 14th-ranked Toms sweep Gustavus and St. Mary's. Olson's two-out triple in the top of the seventh scored a runner from first in a 3-2 game-one win at Gustavus. His none-out, bases-loaded double scored the tying and winning runs in the bottom of the ninth in a 9-8 victory over St. Mary's. His grand slam in game two keyed a 13-run fifth inning that rallied the Toms to a 13-4 win over the Cards. Olson has hit safely in 10 of 12 MIAC games and leads the team in batting at .469. He ranks second in hits and extra-base hits in the MIAC. The Toms are 24-4 overall and lead the MIAC by percentage points at 10-2.

Gustavus sophomore pitcher Josh Spitzack hurled a two-hit shutout against league-leading St. Olaf last Saturday to help Gustavus claim a 1-0 win. Spitzack was nearly perfect on the mound as he struck nine and walked one in seven innings of work. The Gusties went on two sweep the Oles by winning the second game 4-3 and move back into the playoff chase with a league mark of 7-7. Spitzack is 4-3 on the season with an earned run average of 4.85.

Joel Brettingen hit .615 (8-for-13) with a 1.385 slugging percentage as the Scots went 2-2 last week. He had two doubles, a triple and two home runs as the Scots swept Hamline and fell twice to Concordia. Brettingen went 4-for-4 with seven RBI and three extra base hits in Macalester's 9-2 game one win Wednesday over the Pipers. Brettingen currently leads the MIAC in hitting at .545 and slugging percentage (1.068).

Jeremy Hinderks, Sr., RHP, Renville, Minn./R-C-W HS

Jeremy Hinderks threw a no-hitter against fourth-place Macalester on Saturday to help Concordia sweep the Scots and run their win streak to 12 games. Hinderks became the first Concordia pitcher to throw a no-hitter since the 1981 season. He faced only 23 batters in the game, as he walked two and struck out six.

That effort was part of his two-game performance during the week, in which he collected two wins, threw two complete games and allowed only one earned run. On Wednesday, he struck out seven and helped the Cobbers beat Carleton 11-1. That win was Bucky Burgau's 500th career victory as head coach of the Cobbers.

Hinderks has no thrown eight straight complete games and has only allowed two earned runs in his last 30.2 innings of work. He currently leads the MIAC in wins, saves and innings pitched. He is also second in ERA.

For the week Hinderks pitched 14 innings, collected two wins, gave up one earned run and nine hits and struck out 13.

For the season, Cicalello leads the team in virtually every offensive category, including average (.475), at-bats (99), runs (29), hits (47), doubles (6), triples (1), total bases (55) and stolen bases (4).

Brettingen hit .609 (14-for-23) as Macalester went 4-2 in six MIAC games last week against St. Olaf, St. Mary's and Carleton. Eleven of his 14 hits were for extra bases (five doubles, one triple and two home runs) as the two-time All-MIAC second baseman posted a 1.174 slugging percentage. He scored eight runs and drove in six. He had multiple hits in all but one game and at least one extra base hit in all but one game. Brettingen posted a 1.000 fielding percentage in 22 chances and turned four 6-4-3 double plays in Tuesday's 6-5 win over St. Mary’s.

Senior catcher Nate Dammann went 8-for-28 at the plate with 14 RBIs as the Pipers completed the week 5-2. In Saturday's 11-1 and 11-4 sweep of St. Mary's, Dammann broke open a close game one by sparking a nine-run inning with a grand slam. Dammann knocked in five runs in the contest. Dammann added two more RBIs in the second game of the doubleheader. For the week, he had three double and two homers. In the field, Dammann has started every game at catcher for the Pipers.

Junior pitcher Aron Helm went 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA on the week. Against St. Thomas, Helm pitched five strong innings, allowing one earned run in the Pipers' 6-5 win. He allowed just two hits, struck out five, and walked six in the game. In an 11-1 win over St. Mary's, Helm pitched five innings to earn his fifth win of the season. He allowed one earned run on three hits, struck out four and walked two.

Krause, making his first career start after 51 career relief appearances, threw a four-hit shutout with six strikeouts, 11 ground-ball outs and just one walk in game two of Tuesday's home sweep of St. John's. Krause, who pitched five scoreless innings of relief six days earlier to beat Macalester, ran his scoreless string to 12 innings. The Tommies are 20-4 overall and 6-2 in the MIAC. In three MIAC games he's allowed one earned run in 13.2 innings (0.53 ERA).

Tony Cicalello, Sr., 2B, St. Paul, Minn. / Cretin-Derham Hall

Tony Cicalello (St. Paul, Minn.) hit a team-leading .588 in the Cardinals' four games last week. The SMU senior belted out 10 hits in 17 at-bats — including 4-for-5 performances against Macalester and Carleton. He also scored seven runs and drove in three.

Cicalello opened the week by going 7-for-10 (.700) with three RBIs and six runs scored in the Cardinals' conference split with Macalester. The senior second baseman followed that up by hitting .429 (3-for-7) in the Cardinals' two losses to Hamline.

Cicalello had his career-high 13-game hitting streak snapped with an 0-for-3 Game 1 performance against Hamline on Saturday. It was just the second time this season — the other being an 0-for-4 outing vs. Carthage on March 13 — that Cicalello did not have at least one hit. Eight times during his 13-game hitting streak, Cicalello had more than one hit — and he now boasts 11 multiple-hit games this season.

For the season, Cicalello is hitting .446 (37-for-83) with four doubles, one triple, 10 RBIs and 25 runs scored. He boasts a .518 slugging percentage, a .471 on-base percentage, and has stolen three bases in four attempts.

Ryan Hebrink, Sr., SS, Sacred Heart, Minn./R-C-W HS

Ryan Hebrink hit five home runs and drove in 10 runs in helping Concordia to a perfect 7-0 record over the past week. Hebrink hit .391 and scored nine runs as the Cobbers swept Gustavus at home, beat NCAA Division II North Dakota State, and then swept St. John's and Augsburg on the road over the weekend.

In the series against Gustavus, Hebrink single-handedly kept the Cobbers in the first game by smashing a pair of home runs and driving in three of Concordia's six runs in the game. Hebrink duplicated his two-homer performance against NDSU. He hit hit two mammoth shots against the Bison pitching staff. In the Cobbers' sweep over the Johnnies on Saturday, he went 3-for-7. He then finished the week by hitting a home run in the series against Augsburg. He also picked up the win in the second game by shutting down the Auggies in the fifth and sixth innings. His home run in the fourth inning of game one set a new school record for most home runs in a single season. Hebrink now has 10 roundtrippers this season and 29 for his career - both are school records.

Jeremy Hinderks won two games, collected two saves and threw two complete games in his four appearances this past week. He helped Concordia win seven straight games and improve their MIAC record to 7-3. Hinderks pitched in 16.2 innings and only allowed one earned run (0.41 ERA). He also struck out 11 while only walking two batters.

In Concordia's sweep over Gustavus on Monday, Hinderks won the opener by pitching a complete game and only giving up one earned run. In the second game, he entered the game in the top of the seventh inning with Concordia clinging to a one-run lead and retired the side in order.

Against St. John's, Hinderks pitched another complete game in the opener. He only allowed six hits and did not give up an earned run in the Cobbers' 4-1 victory. In the second game, he pitched 1.2 innings and picked up his second save of the week. He finished the game by striking out the Johnnies' two-time all-conference outfielder Jed Riegelman with runners on first and third.

Gustavus senior third baseman Trent Larson hit .529, scored 10 runs and drove in eight runs to help the Gusties post a 5-1 record last week. Larson, who hit safely in all five games, posted a slugging percentage of 1.117 and an on-base percentage of .433. He also hit three home runs and a double. He went 3-for-6 with a double and three runs scored in the doubleheader sweep of regionally rated Wartburg and then went 5-for-8 with 7 runs scored and 7 rbi in the doubleheader sweep over St. Mary's. Larson hit three home runs against the Cardinals as Gustavus posted 15-5 and 17-9 victories. Larson is hitting .347 this season with a .551 slugging percentage. The Gusties are currently 13-6 overall and 2-2 in the MIAC.

He now has a 13-game hitting streak and is batting .471 with 33 hits (nine extra-base hits) and 16 RBI in 20 games. Kimlinger's bases-loaded single in the bottom of the ninth provided the game-winning run in game one, and his fourth-inning single drove in the go-ahead run in game two. He also had nine defensive chances on the day without an error. the Tommies come into the week with a 17-3 record (3-1 MIAC).

First-year Kyle Foster pitched seven solid innings in his second collegiate start as the Pipers beat Concordia 2-1 in the first game of a doubleheader on Wednesday. Foster scattered four hits while striking out eight and walking one in the contest. He gave up just one run in the seventh inning when Luther Kangas led off the inning with a solo homer. Foster settled down and retired the side in order to earn his first win of the season.

Cosgrove hit.412 in the Cardinals' five games last week. The sophmore belted out seven hits in 17 at-bats, including two doubles, a triple and two home runs, in helping SMU to a 2-3 record last week, including a sweep of Carleton, and losses to Gustavus and Viterbo. He also drove in nine runs and boasted a 1.000 slugging percentage.

Cosgrove opened the week with a 2-for-4, 4-RBI effort against Viterbo, and followed that up with a two-run HR in six at-bats against Gustavus. In SMU's sweep of Carleton, Cosgrove went 4-for-7 with two doubles and a triple in helping the Cardinals snap a season-high eight-game losing streak.

Jeremy Nelson, Augsburg pitcher (Jr., Maplewood, Minn./Roseville HS) -- Nelson scored the pitching victory for the Auggies in the first game of a doubleheader against defending conference regular-season champion St. Thomas on Saturday, as Augsburg broke an 11-season, 22-game losing streak to the Tommies. Nelson pitched 6.1 innings, striking out three while walking three and allowing seven hits, throwing 106 pitches in the victory. On the season, Nelson has been Augsburg's most dominant pitcher, with a 2.19 ERA and a 3-1 record in five starts.

Saint John's University freshman outfielder Jay Kasner, Rochester/Lourdes, went 6-for-14 (.429) at the plate with a triple, a home run, a .786 slugging percentage, a .529 on-base percentage and seven RBI in four wins last week for the Johnnies. Kasner also had nine putouts and one assist in 10 chances during the week. In a doubleheader sweep of Wis.-Superior on March 31, Kasner went 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBI in the first game and 2-for-4 in the second game. In a doubleheader sweep of Gustavus on April 3, Kasner had the game-winning hit in the bottom of seventh inning in both games. Kasner's seventh-inning single in the first game scored two runs to give the Johnnies a 5-4 win. In the second game, Kasner tripled and singled in the seventh inning as SJU scored six runs to win 12-11. Kasner's single with two outs scored two runs for the win. Kasner is currently hitting .333 in 13 games this season for the Johnnies. SJU is 8-6 overall and 2-0 in the MIAC.

Charlie Ruud pitched a complete game, in the opening game of the MIAC tournament against Condordia. The Ole pitcher threw ten strikeouts in the nine inning game. The following day, in the championship game against Saint John's, the Ole closer, Ruud earned a save facing only three batters in the bottom of the ninth inning. Ruud is second in the conference for strikeouts with 57, and third in the conference for wins with his 7-2 record. Ruud has thrown six complete games this season and helped the Oles claim the MIAC tournament championship on Saturday.

Ryan Hebrink went 8-for-17 (.471), collected 7 RBI's and was one of the drving forced behind Concordia's playoff clinching victories last week. Concordia went 3-1 on the week in the MIAC, sweeping St. Mary's and splitting with MIAC champion St. Thomas. The Cobbers won three straight games and had a chance to share the MIAC title before losing to the Tommies in the fianl game of the regular season.

To go along with his 7 RBI's, Hebrink also hit 2 hoemruns and had 3 runs scored. Hebrink leads the MIAC in RBI's and tied the school record for home runs and RBI's in a single season with his output last week.

Besides the four conference games, the Cobbers also played NCAA Division II North Dakota State in a non-conference game last week, Despite losing to the Bison 11-0, Hebrink had two hits in the game - half of Concordia's total offensive output.

Carroll hit .526 in the Tommies' 4-1 week and helped St. Thomas claim the outright MIAC championship. He was 10-for-19 with six RBI and four runs scored and joined an elite group to reach 200 hits on his career. He went 3-for-6 in a 13-4 non-conference win over Concordia-St. Paul; went 5-for-6 in a sweep of Hamline, including a three-run homer that broke open a close game; and had one hit in each game in the split with Concordia and had a steal of home in the pivotal 7-0 win. He hit safely in 17 of the 20 MIAC games this season. The 14th-ranked Tommies, 27-8-1, are the top seed for this week's MIAC playoffs in Dundas and Northfield.

The Tommie closer, Krause earned a save and had three solid outings to help the Tommies go 4-1 and claim the outright MIAC championship. In Saturday's key game-two win over Concordia, he got the final 11 outs (3 2/3 innings) and allowed one hit and one walk on a combined two-hit shutout in a 7-0 win. He also pitched in both games vs. Hamline. He came on in the fifth inning with two runners on base and UST leading 2-0 and got an inning-ending pop-up. On the week he pitched 6 2/3 innings and allowed no runs, three hits and one walk with three strikeouts. Krause relieved in 10 conference games in 2003 and went 3-0 with four saves and an 0.91 ERA. The 14th-ranked Tommies, 27-8-1, are the top seed for this week's MIAC playoffs in Dundas and Northfield.

Deibele suffered a 3-2 complete game loss to St. Olaf on May 1, and picked up a win in relief against Hamline on May 3, pitching 5.2 innings of scoreless ball. Deibele is currently 4-4 with a 4.04 ERA in 55.2 innings pitched and has one save. SJU is 21-13 overall and will open MIAC Tournament play against St. Thomas on Friday, May 9.

The win was critical to keep Gustavus in the MIAC playoff hunt.

He allowed just a bunt single in Tuesday's nine-inning, 1-0 win over St. Mary's (9 IP, 0R, 1H, 3W, 6K). He allowed three hits and one unearned run in Sunday's 3-1 win over Gustavus -- a game tied until the bottom of the sixth inning (7IP, 1R, 0ER, 3H, 2W, 2K). He retired 16 of the last 17 batters. Lindstrom leads the conference in ERA -- in three starts he's 3-0 with no earned runs in 22.2 innings. The Tommies, 23-7-1 overall and 14-2 in the conference, have clinched a playoff berth for the fourth year in a row.

Saint John's University senior first baseman Justin Holmgren, Bemidji, hit .455 this past week in six MIAC games, which helped the Johnnies to a 4-2 record. Holmgren had 10 hits in 22 at-bats, with six runs, six RBI, two doubles, two triples and a 1.000 fielding percentage in 49 chances. Holmgren had six hits in a doubleheader sweep of Augsburg on April 21, three hits in a split with Carleton on April 22 and one hit in a split with nationally ranked St. Thomas on April 26. On the season, Holmgren is hitting .420 with 37 hits and 21 RBI in 27 games. SJU is currently 19-10 overall and 10-6 in the MIAC.

Saint John's University freshman pitcher Blake Cheeley, St. Cloud/Saint John's Prep, went 2-0 this week and posted an 1.54 ERA in 11 2/3 innings on the mound. Cheeley pitched a 2-0 complete game shut out on April 21 at Augsburg, scattering six hits, while walking three and striking out four batters. Cheeley then pitched 4 2/3 innings in a 8-3 win over nationally ranked St. Thomas on April 26. Cheeley gave up two earned runs, three hits, three walks and two strikeouts. On the season, Cheeley is 4-1 with a 5.68 ERA in six starts and nine appearances. SJU is currently 19-10 overall and 10-6 in the MIAC.

The senior fanned 13 in notching his third complete game in MIAC play in four starts this year (his only non-complete game was a 10-inning, two day affair with St. Thomas). He came back in the second game, pitching one inning in allowing two runs, one earned, in absorbing the loss in relief. LePage is 2-2 with an 0.82 ERA in league play, as opposing batters are hitting only .223 against him.

Krause had a save and a win with two solid relief appearances in the Toms' hard-fought 2-0 and 11-3 (11 innings) sweep at Carleton. In game one, he came on in the bottom of the seventh with the tying runs on base and got a game-ending strikeout to preserve Sean Lindstrom's shutout. He came on in the fifth inning of game two and pitched six innings and allowed two runs and six walks with eight strikeouts. He pitched out of base-loaded jams in the seventh and eighth then set down the Knights 1-2-3 in the bottom of the ninth and 10th. The Toms eventually won the game in the 11th inning with sevn runs. The Tommies have won 11 in a row to move to 15-5-1 overall and 6-0 in the conference.

(Denfeld) LePage recorded one of the most amazing pitching performances in recent MIAC history on Tuesday, going 10 innings and fanning 12 in getting a no-decision against St. Thomas. The senior righty allowed three unearned runs and was one out away from recording a 10-inning shutout of one of the top teams in the nation. LePage hurled six-hit ball in holding th Tommies in check after they'd scored 30 runs in sweeping a doubleheader from Bethel College only a week ago. LePage walked four and was 1-for-4 at the plate with a key two-run double in the sixth. On Saturday at Concordia, LePage heroically returned to the mound less than four days after his 160-pitch performance against St. Thomas on Tuesday by allowing only one earned run in six innings. The senior righty scattered seven hits and fanned five batters.

Chris Siverson went 7-for-12 as he helped Concordia go 3-1 in conference doubleheaders against St. Olaf and Carleton this past week. Siverson had four RBI's, four runs scored and hit his second collegiate home rum in helping the Cobbers stay in second place in the league.

Against St. Olaf on Wednesday, he went 4-for-6 and hit his only home run of the year. His clutch-hitting helped Concordia break a 10-game losing streak at St. Olaf. On Saturday against Carleton, he was 3-for-6 and had one of only three team RBI's for the day.

With his four games this past week he has pushed his season batting average to .327 on the year.

Derek Dormanen collected a win and two saves in helping Concordia to a 3-1 record in doubleheaders over St. Olaf and Carleton. For the week he pitched 6.1 innings allowed only 2 earned runs, 3 hits and struck out 6.

On Wednesday against St. Olaf, he picked up his second save of the year as Concordia snapped a 10-game losing streak at St. Olaf. He entered the game in the fifth inning and allowed only two hits while striking out four. He pitched in both games of the doubleheader against Carleton on Sarurday. In the first game he relieved starter Jeremy Hinderks with the score tied at 3-3 in the top of the sixth inning. He pitched two scoreless innings and picked up his third win of the year. He only gave up one hit in the outing and didn't allow a runner past second base. In the second game of the twinbill he pitched the final two innings to earn his third save of the year and second in three games. He didn't allow a hit and struck out two.

In a 6-3 first game win, Dammann went 2-for-3 with five RBIs including at 3-run homer in the third and two-run double in the fifth. He added four more RBIs, going 3-for-4 from the plate, in the Pipers' 20-9 win in the nightcap. Against St. Mary's, Dammann went 2-for-6, knocking in four runs, three in Hamline's 14-9 win. Riegelman was 11-of-20 batting last week, including a grand slam in a 17-12 win over St. Cloud State on April 10. Riegelman had six RBI against the Huskies. Riegelman was 6-for-7 in a doubleheader against Saint Mary's on April 8. The Johnnies went 3-2 during the week and are now 12-8 overall and 4-4 in the MIAC. Saint John's University junior pitcher Matt Johnson, Plymouth, pitched two complete games wins last week, including a 2-0 one-hit shut out against Saint Mary's on April 8. Johnson faced the minimum 21 batters against the Cardinals, striking out seven. Johnson pitched a complete game and only allowed an unearned run in a 6-1 win over Gustavus on April 12. For the week, Johnson pitched 14 innings, allowing no earned runs on seven hits, while striking out 11 and walking none. The Johnnies went 3-2 during the week and are now 12-8 overall and 4-4 in the MIAC. Johnson is now 4-1 on the season with a 3.00 ERA and 3-0 with a 1.71 ERA in MIAC play.

Young went 2-for-4 in Monday's 13-2 win over Northwestern. His two-run double in the fifth inning erased a 1-0 deficit. In Wednesday's sweep of Bethel, he went 4-for 8 with a homer and a double in each game. In game two, his three-run homer keyed a five-run fourth inning. The Toms led 5-4 in the sixth inning when his RBI double scored the first of six insurance runs. The Tommies are 11-5-1 overall and 2-0 in the MIAC with seven consecutive victories.

He went 4-for-4 at the plate with four runs scored, an RBI, double and triple in Augsburg's 8-5, first-game win. In the second game, he was 1-for-1 at the plate, but was walked three times -- twice intentionally -- in Augsburg's 2-1 loss. Hinderks held the Johnnies, who were ranked fifth in the Midwest Region entering the game, to 4 hits while striking out 7. He only walked two batters and faced only 27 St. John's hitter. After working out of a jam in the second inning Hinderks only allowed 2 hits in the remaining 5 innings and didn't allow a single runner past second base.

It was Hinderks' second straight shutout and moves his scorelss inning streak to 15.

Sather reached base in his final 10 plate appearances and struck out just twice in 34 plate appearances while committed no errors in seven chances. In 14 season games he's batting .550 with 22 hits, 18 RBI, four home runs, eight doubles and one triple. On his career, Sather has 55 extra-base hits (19 HRs, 31 doubles and five triples). Ramthun went 1-0 with an 0.75 ERA in 12 innings last week. He threw a three-hit shutout Saturday in a 4-0 win over Mount Vernon Nazarene -- the first time the Cougars were shutout in 76 games, dating back to April 2001. Earlier in the week he allowed one run and seven hits in five innings vs. Southern Maine and left with a 3-1 lead. He had four strikeouts and three walks on the week. On the season, Ramthun has a 2.84 ERA in four appearances. The Tommies are 8-5-1.

LePage is 6-5 with 10 complete games and a 5.60 ERA on the season. He has completed all 10 games that he has started.

Olson continued his versatile play and caught 39 of 40 innings in the Tommies' 4-2 week that kept them in the MIAC title race. He batted .500 (7-for-14) with 8 RBI and six runs. He had a home run, two doubles, two sac flies, two walks, two sacrifices and was hit by pitch twice, and either reached base or had a sacrifice in 15 of 22 plate appearances. In Sunday's 9-7 win at Gustavus that let UST salvage a split, he had a three-run homer in the first and walked and scored an insurance run in the seventh. He reached base four times in both the St. mary's sweep and the St. John's split. He also converted all 47 defensive attempts at catcher. The Tommies are 22-8 overall and 12-4 in the MIAC.

During the Gusties' 3-1 week, senior Brandon Burmeister batted .667, going 10-for-15 at the plate. In an 8-3 win ovr St. Mary's, Burmeister went 3-of-4 with three RBI, one run, and a solo home run. He followed that with a 4-for-4 performance with two RBI in the lone loss to SMU. On Saturday, Burmeister went 3-for-4, scoring four runs off a double and two stolen bases in Gustavus's 13-1 win over Carleton. Burmeister is now batting .478 for the season with 11 RBI, eight doubles, and 15 runs.

He went 3-of-4 with 2 runs, 2 RBI and 2 double in the team's 12-3 win over the Royals. Against St. John's on Saturday, Larson scored the winning run in a 3-2 decision in the first game after going 2-of-3. He then went 2-of-5 in an 11 inning thriller that Gustavus came from behind to win 9-8. Larson scored 2 runs, recorded 2 RBI, and hit his first collegiate home run in the win.

Edstrom went 2-0 on the week and allowed just one run in 12 innings while improving his career record to 22-1. He threw a one-hit, complete-game shutout Sunday at Augsburg, with two walks and eight strikeouts, and led just 2-0 through six innings in a 4-0 win. He pitched five innings in Tuesday's 14-6 win at Carleton, allowing one run, two hits and two walks while striking out five. He's 3-0 on the season with a 3.60 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 25 innings. St. Thomas is 16-4 overall and 6-0 in the MIAC.

Brian Sprout (Jr., Lake City, Minn.) In a big week for the Oles, Sprout had 4 home runs in the final games of the season against St. Thomas. In game 1, Sprout hit a grand slam in the 2nd inning to give the Oles a 5-2 lead and a solo shot in the 4th. The Oles went on to win 13-5. In game 2, Sprout hit a two-run blast in the third and a solo shot in the fourth and the Oles won 18-5. In the two games, Sprout scored 8 runs, scattered five hits and collected 8 RBI. In the wins against Concordia and St. John's, Sprout had 7 hits and scored 5 runs.

The Oles repeated as MIAC Champions with an 18-2 record in the conference and 27-7 overall.

In game 2 against St. Thomas, Rudd pitched 4 innings, striking out 5 and allowed only one earned run. Rudd was the winning pitcher in the Oles' 18-5 win over the Tommies.

The Oles repeated as MIAC Champions with an 18-2 record in the conference and were 27-7 overall.

Gustavus picked up its first win over the University of St. Thomas since May 8, 1998 on Saturday in St. Peter 9-8 in eight innings when sophomore right fielder Tom Ramy singled home two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. In the third inning of the same game, Ramy smacked a RBI double that tied him with Chris Swansson as the all-time leader for doubles in a season with 16 at Gustavus. After sweeping Hamline (6-3, 4-3) and knocking off top ranked UST, the Gusties have put themselves in a position to clinch the fourth and final MIAC Playoff berth. Ramy was 7-of-10 with six RBI, a home run, and two doubles for a batting average of .700 and a slugging percentage of 1.200 heading into Sunday's make-up game with the Toms. He ended an eight-game hitting streak on Sunday when he went 0-of-3 with a walk in the 11-7 loss.

The senior catcher highlighted SMU's win vs. the No. 1-ranked Tommies by going 2-for-4 and driving in four runs - including SMU's final two on a two-out, two-strike home run in the bottom of the seventh inning. It was SMU's first win vs. St. Thomas since 1995. Morrison also added home runs in each of SMU's two games vs. Hamline.

Domarus collected five hits — all for extra bases — and drove in six runs as SMU swept St. John's, split with Macalester and swept St. Olaf. The sophomore designated hitter laced four doubles and his team-leading fourth home run, and boasted an .857 slugging percentage as SMU improved to 10-4 overall and 8-2 in the MIAC.

The Saint Mary's University pitching duo of Williamson and Kanz went 4-0 for the Cardinals last week, as SMU went 5-1 last week and grabbed a share of second-place in the MIAC standings. Williamson tossed a five-hitter in SMU's 5-3 win over St. John's, allowing one earned run in six innings, while walking one and striking out seven. The sophomore from St. Charles, Minn., followed that up with a complete-game two-hitter as the Cardinals beat St. Olaf 7-1, handing the Oles their first conference loss in 18 games. Williamson struck out four and walked three, while lowering his week-low ERA to 1.08. Not to be outdone, Kanz tossed a six-hitter in Game 2 vs. St. John's, allowing two runs, while walking two and striking out one. In his other start, Kanz tossed a complete-game six-hitter against St. Olaf, allowing one run, while walking one and striking out two.

He played errorless defense in 16 infield chances and reach base in seven of 14 at-bats with five hits, a walk, a hit-by-pitch, a stolen base and a scarifice. He drove in one run in Saturday's 2-1 win over Augsburg. He now has 209 hits and 159 runs in 162 career games, and the Toms are 136-35 in his era. On the season, he's batting .522 with 47 hits, 34 RBI and 23 runs in UST's 21-3 start.

Sophomore Marcus Turner tossed a 7-0 shutout over St. Mary's Wednesday (April 18), giving Macalester a doubleheader split with the second-place Cardinals in Winona. Turner faced just 25 batters - just four over the minimum - giving up just four hits and no walks while striking out two and giving Macalester its first shutout in 83 games. Turner got SMU to ground out into innning-ending double plays in the third and fourth innings.

SJU sophomore Charlie Carr, St. Cloud/Apollo, hit .467 in six games this past week for the Johnnies. Carr had seven hits, including three doubles and one triple in 15 at-bats. Carr had a slugging percentage of .800 and an on-base percentage of .529 for the week. In the field, Carr had a .917 fielding percentage in 12 chances. Carr's best game was in a 3-0 win over Macalester on Saturday, April 21, when he went 3-for-3.

Deibele went 1-1 on the week, giving up two earned runs in 13 innings pitched. Deibele struck out 12 and walked five. Deibele pitched a complete game shut-out at Macalester on Saturday, April 21. In the 3-0 win at Macalester, Deibele scattered four hits and struck out eight.

Derek Dormanen hit a blistering .777 (7-for-9) in Concordia's six games last week. The Cobbers went 4-2 during the week, including a 2-0 victory over top ranked St. Thomas. Although Derek did not hit in that game he was the pitcher of record, throwing a complete game for the shutout win. He also pitched against St. Mary's, and in both games he threw he did not bat in the game. He has hit safely in his last seven at-bats and drove in the winning run, in the Cobbers 2-0 win over St. John's. In the series against the Johnnies he was a perfect 5-for-5 with an RBI. In the second game against St. Mary's he went 2-for-2 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. In the field Dormanen had a .950 fielding percentage at shortstop and pitcher. He only committed one error while handling 20 chances.

Hunkins won both of his starts last week to improve to 4-0 on the season with a 1.50 ERA. After the Toms' game-one loss to Concordia-Moorhead Monday, Hunkins came back in game two and pitched six strong innings in an 11-2 win over the Cobbers. He allowed one earned run, three hits a walk with one strikeout. In saturday's 4-0 win over Hamline, Hunkins pitched five innings and allowed three hits with no runs, no walks and four strikeouts. The Toms are 17-3 overall and 5-1 in the MIAC.

Brad Mazer became the all-time leader in home runs (20) and RBIs (94) in a career at Gustavus last week as the Gusties went 3-1 in MIAC action. Mazer notched his record-breaking 89th RBI on a home run to right center in the lone loss to Macalester College on Monday. During Tuesday's first game with Carelton College, Mazer hit two home runs, including a grand slam that sparked an 11-5 come-from-behind victory. Mazer is hitting .472 on the season with 25 hits, 25 RBIs, nine doubles, and four home runs in 53 at-bats. He also has a .99 fielding percentage behind the plate. Gustavus is currently 11-5 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

Jesse Retzer (3-0) pitched a complete game to record his third win of the season on Monday against the Macalester Scots in the first half of a double header. Retzer gave up four hits and one earned run while striking out seven of the 24 batters he faced en route to a 5-1 decision. Retzer has an ERA of 1.27 in the four games he has appeared in, and has gone the distance twice this season. Retzer has struck out 17 batters in 22 innings, giving up only four eraned runs. Gustavus is currently 11-5 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

Sundberg led St. Thomas to a 6-0 week and extended his hitting streak to 15 games. Urdahl had an outstanding week in helping Hamline to a 3-3 record in doubleheaders with Carleton, Concordia, and Augsburg. For the week, Urdahl hit .526 (10-19) with 1 home run, 3 runs scored, and 6 RBI. Urdahl's home run was a three-run shot that helped the Pipers to an 8-6 victory Game One victory over Augsburg. Urdahl then went to the mound in Game Two and earned a complete game 8-4 victory. The complete game victory was the second of the week for Urdahl, as he also pitched Hamline to a 3-2 victory over Carleton. For the week on the mound, Urdahl went 14 innings (two complete game victories), giving up 16 hits and 6 runs, while striking out 10. Urdahl also played errorless ball defensively, handling 9 chances without a miscue.

The Gusties compiled a record of 3-5 during the week as they were swept by St. Olaf and UW-River Falls before sweeping Augsburg and splitting with St. John's. Mazer has been on a tear as he hit .545 last week and has been hitting at a .621 clip over the past two weeks. Mazer is hitting .512 in MIAC play with 21 hits in 41 at-bats. Keenan Sue - Macalester College (Jr., Honolulu, HI / Punahou School)

All-MIAC shortstop Keenan Sue went 6-for-14 last week (.429) with a couple home runs and double to help Macalester win three of four games. He put the Scots up for good with a two-run homer in the third in an 8-7 upset over St.Olaf on Wednesday (April 19) and went 4-for-7 in Saturday's sweep over Concordia. Sue had a double and homer in Mac's 6-3 win in the opener and produced a pair of run-scoring singles in a 3-2 win in the nightcap. Through 26 games, Sue is hitting .429 with a .762 slugging percentage.

Christian Blanck - Macalester College (Sr., Minneapolis, MN / South H.S.)

Christian Blanck picked up a save by coming in to retire one batter with the tying run at third base in the opener, and went the distance in a 3-2 win in the nightcap to help Macalester sweep Concordia on Saturday (April 22) and move into a three-way tie for first place in the MIAC standings. In the nightcap Blanck allowed just six hits and a walk while striking out five. He's 6-0 on the season with a 3.07 ERA. He has a 45:10 strikeout to walk ratio.

Nuss broke out of a slump in Bethel's sweep of St. Mary's on Saturday. In Game 1, Nuss hit a two run homer to lead Bethel to a 4-3 win. Christian Blanck tossed a one-hitter in an 8-1 win last Tuesday (April 11) over Carleton and beat St. Mary's 2-1 Monday (April 17) on a five-hitter to improve to 5-0 on the season. Blanck allowed a leadoff triple in the first inning but held the Knights hitless the rest of the way while walking just one batter and striking out five. Carleton's only run was unearned. Jesse Calm homered in three of the four games last week to help Macalester extend its winning streak to six games. Calm went 4-for-11 (.364) with 8 RBI in sweeps over Hamline and Grinnell. He ignited a seven-run sixth inning in Mac's 8-4 win over the Pipers in game two with a home run, and hit a key three-run blast in Macalester's 6-5 win over Grinnell in the nightcap.
