Travel with the English Department:
May and Exploration Seminars

The department’s first Exploration Seminar was offered during the spring term of 2002.  Exploration Seminars take students to off-campus study locations during spring mid-semester break.  These travel experiences are “nested” or “embedded” within a second semester on-campus course. 

In Spring 2008, students will have two Exploration Seminar opportunities.  English 410X: Robert Frost, will travel to..... and English 451X: Texts and Contexts will focus on ..... with a seminar Paradise Re-Imagined: Hawaiian Literature and Culture again led by Jonathan Steinwand.

Please visit the links below for more information about these previously-offered seminars.  In Spring 2002 and again in 2007, students in English 401X who signed up for the Exploration Seminar traveled to London to attend productions of Shakespeare’s plays and to visit historic sites and museums. During the spring semester of 2003, the English department offered two Exploration Seminars: The Irish Troubles and Writers' Response and The England of Chaucer and Shakespeare. 

In 2004, two Exploration seminars were held, titled: Americans in Paris and Paradise Re-Imagined: Hawaiian Literature and Culture.

In 2006, the Exploration Seminar was a trip to Dublin embedded in English 451X: Postcolonial Literature.
